Instructor Maura
New England - ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI
Being of Irish heritage and the daughter of a Navy man, Maura, or “Mo” was destined to become a sailor. Always a competitor in high school and college athletics she wanted to learn the basics inside and out and grow from there. Her first experience was on a windsurfer and after being coached by impatient friends, it was clear that formal instruction was in order at some point. This would come years later at an sailing school in Punta Gorda. The passion to sail took root and she found herself coaching friends and family on a lake in Maine. Here she can be on the boat, sails up and on a starboard tack 15 minutes after leaving the house. Having coached softball, soccer, field hockey and basketball, after a successful college field hockey career at Northeastern University, Maura finds teaching sailing very rewarding. After seven years ago, Maura has seen many people truly blossom after learning to sail. Teaching has now become her passion. Maura and her husband cruise in Florida together when not sailing in Maine, where it can get a bit ‘sporty’ in February and March!
