Instructor Rayna

W Canada
Rayna was drawn to water at an early age, but it wasn't until she served as crew on a trans-Atlantic crossing from Connecticut, USA to Santander, Spain via the Azores on a 47' Beneteau that she realized just how much she loved sailing and being so connected to the water in such a quiet, peaceful manner.  An indication of what determination, passion and an open mind can achieve.

Rayna completed this three and a half week blue-water crossing only weeks after wrapping up her Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) Basic Cruising course at Queen's Quay Yachting in Toronto, ON.  Upon her return to Canada she immediately picked up and moved west to Vancouver in November of 2007 so that she could sail year-round, and has since completed her CYA Basic Cruising Instructor certification with Capt. Gillian.  In addition to continued single-handed sailing in the waters of English Bay, Vancouver on a Catalina 22, Rayna has added a second delivery to her list: first mate on a 40' Bavaria from Sidney, BC to Vancouver, BC.  In July of 2008 she will add a third and return to the Atlantic as crew on a custom-built 125' yacht from Tortola, the British Virgin Islands to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

With a background as an adult ESL teacher, Rayna possesses the patience and skills to teach in a friendly, fun and relaxed atmosphere.  Her strengths lie in teaching individuals with no prior sailing experience, as well as those who have left land a few times to enjoy the ways of the water.  Her main goal is to get you out on the water safely and confidently so that you can experience the absolute joy of the wind in your sails, whether it be as skipper or crew of the boat!

Rayna is available for instruction on either your boat or a Catalina 22.
