Our Mission

The Women's Sailing Connection is dedicated to women in sailing, to become all you can be as a female sailor. Be inspired by the accomplished professional female captains and instructors. And all the accomplished women who have sailed around the world, competed and won proving that women can be just as accomplished sailors as men. It doesn't matter where you come from or what your goals are, racing or cruising, becoming certified or just gaining confidence, we are all here to support and help each other.

For too long sailing has been a male dominated sport. That means that the way sailing has been taught for centuries has been by men for men. Men and women learn differently, communicate differently and process information differently. Not bad, just different.

This website is about embracing those things that are unique to women. Too often the comments from women are: "I just do what I am told." or "I just can't understand it." It's not that we are not intelligent; it's just that we need to learn the way "we learn" as women.

After spending over a year collecting women's surveys via internet and boat shows, the information revealed that too many women are being held back by fears that could easily be overcome by learning in the right environment.

So take a new journey with us, put aside those things of the past, and come learn from other women who have overcome the fears, the obstacles and the challenges. Possibly even the same ones you are now facing. There is no doubt you can become a confidant sailor. Yes, you too can be all that you desire to be in sailing.

What is your goal? Is it to be a great first mate? To be able to handle the boat you own with your husband? Be the skipper or even a Captain? Own your own boat with confidence as a single woman? Or be a top-notch racer? We will provide the tools, resources and encouragement.

Ladies, as Annie Lenox said "We're comin' out of the kitchen and doing it for ourselves. . ." This is not a website to share recipes, it's about sharing our abilities, knowledge, confidence and helping each other to succeed.

And for the guys who are reading this, please know that this will never be a website to speak ill of any men. Men have been the providers, conquerors, they have been daring and courageous, forging the trails ahead of us. We appreciate all that we can gain from being along side of you. . . we just need to do it our own way. More and more schools are recognizing the importance of teaching couples together. Teamwork is critical if you and your mate are going to sail confidently together into the sunset. Your support for the woman in your life means that you can achieve your dream. So we thank you that you are here to be supportive of her.
